BRIEF:
CAL:
ART_421_Cal_Project_1_2022.pdf
Design a cohesive and contemporary cover series for a selected set of titles within the Barnes & Noble Classics brand based upon a chosen demographic, in support of a Campaign to support a Non-Profit. Considerable research must be conducted concerning the entire series in order to determine possible thematic similarities. Research will show that there are several series already established under the Barnes & Noble Classics umbrella of titles – all titles published by Barnes & Noble Classics are available for your redesign, providing they are currently in print.
The solution must be a concept driven approach. For example, “books about monsters” is not a concept. A concept will take much longer to develop and produce. To achieve a professional approach, the designer will be required to push far beyond surface or mere genre selection when selecting a group of titles to be included in their set.
The designer will create a Barnes & Noble Classics subset of titles aimed at their selected demographic. This demographic will be culled from research concerning their assigned non-profit. In order to properly identify this audience, extremely deep research must be conducted at the outset. The chosen demographic should direct the designer to the correct aesthetic tone for their series.
There are many different ways to bring a group of disparate items into a unified experience without the pieces becoming homogenous.
Portfolio ready mockups should be submitted at final critique (for the semester). All images included in final mockup pdf. must also be presented in print at this time. Additionally, an accompanying print, digital, or tangible marketing campaign (in the context appropriate for chosen concept and demographic) must be submitted in addition to portfolio mockups. This campaign should include 3-5 visual examples, mocked up (and portfolio ready), in their proper context. Each of these elements should be submitted as a pdf.
